Kreme Celebrates 65th Birthday By Creating Record-Breaking Cake
Krispy Kreme celebrated
its 65th birthday by creating the world's largest doughnut cake at approximately
18 feet wide and 12 feet tall.
Establishing
a Guinness World Record(TM), 20 volunteers used 14,832 Krispy Kreme Original
Glazed and Chocolate Iced Sprinkled doughnuts, more than 1,000 pounds of icing
and almost 330 pounds of candy to decorate the cake. The doughnut cake weighed
in at 2,413.098 pounds.
Krispy
Kreme's executive chief and company volunteers began decorating the cake at
2:00 AM ET, July 13 on a custom-built platform. The cake was prepared hygienically,
contained traditional ingredients and be edible in order to meet the Guinness
World Record(TM) requirement.
The
birthday celebration was held at the birthplace of the first Krispy Kreme
store, in what is now known as Historic Old Salem near downtown Winston-Salem,
NC. The cake was made in Salem Square at Academy and Main Street.
